THIS WEEK ON ARIV…

  • Happiness Continues

Ok now let’s elaborate.

I have been very calm lately.

Like deathly calm.

A combination of hard runs, cold showers, and being Ariv has landed me, quite a few times in the past week, in a zone.

A zone of awareness, without feeling. Simply noticing.

I felt after the run I had a week ago.

And I felt it after the cold showers I’ve intermittently been taking throughout this week.

And I feel it right now.

Okay Ariv we get it.

You’re a sadhu (an Indian saint), now what?

In this period of noticing I felt no intense emotions, I only registered the state of being.

I went through it so much the past week that a lot of times I had no idea what the heck to even do the moment it came to be.

You see, my friend, us humans aren’t in flow.

Like ever.

In our constant escapade to conquer the seven seas of our own creation, we rarely ever slow down, sink in awareness, and truly be alone.

And this was my magical understanding.

Brought to me in form of my dad today, when he told me not to listen to a podcast on my run because it would be nice if I just ran, this wisdom blew the frick out of me.

Throughout this run I thought of something.

And that was absolutely nothing.

My mind was clear, my head was free, and I noticed everything.

I walked through a line of sheep, I became a Jedi and sensed a biker behind me and said hi to him, and I thanked the incredible human who was sanitizing the bathrooms because all year, he was the one who made coming to Coyote Hills comfortable.

And this all wouldn’t have happened if I’d been listening to Tim Ferris.

Sorry Tim :)

Seriously, it sucks that we can’t experience this.

We should never have to be surprised when we are calm.
Surprised when the world seems so conquerable.
Surprised when we are relaxed.
Surprised when we simply notice.
Surprised when we wake up at 3:30 and stay awake because of how fresh we feel and then proceed to send all of our friends a picture of us on our 4 AM walk.

Okay maybe that’s just me.

But I’m serious!

This state of being is one to not just think is a cool thing that people do, it’s one that you should treasure.

One you should actively reach for.

And don’t take it from me, take it from the feeling you get after you give it a shot.

If you don’t want to run and if you don’t want to subject yourself to a shower and if you think meditation doesn’t work (it does ;), then just try seclusion.

Go to a park.

A backyard.

A place of calm.

Where you aren’t on will call.

Without wifi.

And just sit.

Or walk.

And breathe.

Notice your breath.

Let your thoughts ebb and flow.

And allow yourself an out of body experience.

Who knows, you might just become the next Baba Ramdev.

And if you don’t, you might just feel better.

Or happier.

Or cooler.

Or like you can conquer the world.

O- but I digress.

Don’t try to find flow…

Let it come to you.

Oh and it’ll come to you.

I promise.
